Real spring!

 Today is great day.

All day I try to do as much as I can to found time to been outside and then post something there. So there is what I did. I have cold, so doesn't work, just been outside in my garden. Taken some pictures and enjoy every part of my garden. Temperature is high today, so it is great for flowers. They grow very fast. I see that major SDB irises have to bloom this year, because they grow a lot babies around one rhizome. So waiting. But in my minds is other worry, which make me think and plan a lot. Few weeks from now my garden will be without daylilies. I will dig them and remove in my grandmother garden,

where will be better and save place for them. No one worry is irises. I want to protect them, but also want to see blooms and breed them. So I think I will keep some and others will replace to grandmother garden. Sad, but this I must to do. If not, my garden plants would have big danger to dig out and take of bad peoples. So I think, that my grandmother garden will be better place for them. Also, after exams, in summer, I plan to go to live with grandmother for summer. So then I will can to work with daylilies more.

   And now all pessimistic minds I will leave and go to nice thing about my garden today. So I see that irises and daylilies have not big damages after this winter. Only few daylilies won't grow now, and more irises have rot... And one of it is from USA. Sad, but I have others, and enjoy them. Sadness won't bring it for me.

   In these photos you can see my all garden. From one side to other. I just have a problem with adding a photo with that part of garden, where is tons of irises from Loic. But maybe latter I can to add it and show all view of my little garden with tons of flowers. I am very happy to see daylily seedlings, which I grow past year by winter indoors, growing now. They was great, and show few fans now. So hope to see some blooms in season. So hope, that grandmother soil will work well for them. In these photos my garden looks full of labels. Now it looks like more labels than plants. But later, when plants grow more, it will change and look better. And I like the way they look now, because I know what they can show later, at peak bloom time. For now, this view is poor, but just take imagination and look how it must look when everything will grow.

This day inspired me to take a lot pictures. There is only few photos from all, I made. And I keep only these and daylilies close-up photos for my science project illustration. And there is pictures of lovely crocus, which this year look very good.

I love this flower, because it is first colorful blooms in garden after winter. Few years back I plant one of each variety bulbs and now I have this lovely bunch of blooms. I wish in my future garden to have a field grass with crocus. They look very nice in grass. And after bloom leaves make grass look live more, and later it will die, and doesn't look poor, because grass will cover it. But this is just an idea, which must to been tested.

  Those photos look very professional and good for me, but it taken with my phone camera. Simple, but make good pictures with no broken colors.

Winter dreams about flowers

Winter is the most depress time for gardeners. Well maybe only for me. So after school, home works and other important things I do arts. And one of my favorite type of arts for this winter was silk.

 

 Things which I want to paint was flower. Everything started, in arts class, when I first time try to paint on silk and this iris is my very first work on silk. I can say, that this is very hard task and not so easy as to paint on other fabrics. There if you do mistake - color split not on that way, when that must be, it wasn't removable. So all work is only when I am calm and not nervous. And carefully paint with silk colors. Effect of done work is amazing. I never though, that this could be so fun to paint on this type. And from that day is started a new era of my works. Now I am done about 20 or more works on silk. Some now is in States, others still in my shelve or my wall. Very first works went in exhibition, where I can present my works for people. Now they look like kid works. I make a progress and now using my own style. Iris is painted from Internet sketch, all other I make sketches and then painted on silk.

Today works is more better and have my own features. And also, I am better in silk painting. Just take a look from beginning to now. Even they are not so old, some only few weeks back reached new homes, but for me, this list of photos is like progress in my arts. From simple to something new what make my paintings look better. But I am still think, that this is not end. For now, maybe yes, but next winter I will try something new.

Science projects and new capabilities

 

So amazing day. At 2013 April 11-12 was European Union national etap of young scientist contest final. There I present work about daylily hybridizing and seedling growing inside. And what can you say, I won. And will go in final at Prague. Wow. First time for big trip, where I can present my work with daylilies. So many great feelings at this time. So my work is one of three the bests in Lithuania, which can go in final. So I hope I will done all works with exams, and translate this work in English and make it even more academic.

Maybe this is a mark, that my way of life is good and I must to move on and keep this. I even can not live without flowers. Last year I say, that I wouldn't grow seedlings inside next year by winter. But no, I can't live without daylilies by winter, so sowed seeds by late fall of 2012, and now I have a lot lovely seedlings growing. What is interesting, that in all bunch of seedlings I found one cross with 3 albino seedlings in it. So maybe it could be my other part of science work..? Just a mind, and I will keep going with it.

So this is all from me. I got few messages, that people waiting for my other post in blog, so this is it. Maybe now you will know, why I don't post much at this time. And still don't post soon. So wait and will see something.
My garden is free of snow! At least I see some green foliage in my garden. Daylilies are still no big, but irises showing up fast. Now blooming crocus. Sunny day, and I have to work with my project, school things and etc.

VIP visit in Kairėnai botanical garden

Very Important Person or VIP. That is great feeling to be special for a week. Last year I have great opportunity. I won contest and all week spend in Lithuanian government. Worked in Ministry of Agriculture, as a secret Minister. That was the best week in my live. All that week I meet very good and nice people and visit very interesting places. From Ministry of Agriculture, State Food and Veterinary Service VIP visit in Kairėnai botanical garden in Vilnius. So I share some of photos from that special day, when I go in Kairėnai garden. That day was special. In early morning I go in Ministry and was sad, because outside was very cloudy and start to rain. Not very much, but still - rain. But we still sit in car and drive in botanical garden.

When we go there, weather goes normal. No rain, but still big and scary clouds been close. Hopefully - no rain at that time. Sun shows few times.

What was very special, that we can walk with botanical garden specialist, who say a lot interesting things about garden and flowers, which we see near. That time at garden bloomed a lot gladiolus and dahlias. So major time we spend in those two zones of plants.

No one cloud scare us.

Even grass was wet and I have only summer shoes, but we don't stop and look at great dahlias bloom. What is very unique, that all those dahlias and gladiolus was Lithuanian hybridizer work from all the time.

Amazing dahlias, which looked like sun and give me warm breath.

Something what surprise me very much. Is daylily bed. All of them was Lithuanian creations too. Late blooming is great there.

Now maybe you think what there is so special and important of my visit. Ministry of agriculture visit in somewhere is very important thing. So as that week I was secret minister, so this visit is just that.

One time start to rain, but we glower look in sky  an it stops. That is nice and funny.

Gladiolus grows in very interesting spiral bed. It was big and very nice to walk in it.

Kairėnai garden have amazing display beds, which is very nice and easy to take a look. All garden look amazing, but each bloom have something unique.

We got some flowers as a gift. We placed them in real minister cabinet and in other ministry cabinets.

And last talk near daylilies and we go back to ministry. Hard day waited, not very long visit, but special. For me, and maybe for botanical garden :D

So nice to remember that week in Ministry of Agriculture and work in government. I want to say thanks for one reader of my blog, who suggest me to write about this. Nice to remember those days.

Oh, now I remember at those days I must to write blog about what I do every day. Just that is in Lithuanian. So don't show there. Maybe at that project I found my talent to write blog's or what...

New irises 2012

I officially past year (2012) call year of irises. From small collection of 20 iris varieties, in the end of 2012 I have over 300 iris varieties. That is very very much and I enjoy that. So this year I must to see a lot blooms. And make crosses. There is few photos from last year.

 

New iris bed. I got all those irises from Poland. Robert Piątek give me very much good irises. So there is TB type irises.

And there is SDB from Robert. So great varieties, which must to amaze me with blooms.

There is irises from Loic Tasquer. He send me very big box with irises. This is from where I got major part of new irises. About 230 new varieties. I spend about 2 days planting them and labeling. Hard work, but I love this kind of work. That is all what I need.

And there is most stunding ones. I won AIS photo contest and prize was new irises. So few weeks after I know that I won I got information, that Paul Black work with my prize and he send for me 21 iris variety. Rhizomes was really big. And I got all what I wanted so long.

And one of great introduction - Daring Deception. This will be top iris in my garden. Well, if this survive. I am still doesn't seen it from snow this year. So wait.

This is how that one must to bloom. Oh can't wait.

This year I will add a lot new photos with my new irises. This year I don't make any new order with irises, because I must to handle with these and take care with them first. Oh, and this year, 2013 is turn in Daylily years of mine. Because I will got order from Floyd Cove Nursery and my mentor say, that send something. So this is all what I need. Just new varieties for great future goals.



Special daylilies in my garden

All what I like, is unique plants, which wasn't look the same like others. And I have few daylilies, which is very unique and special for me. I use them in my breeding program and hope to get some special seedlings. Now maybe you say, that every daylily is special. Yes. I agree, but I mean those with very special features. And there is few advices:

 

Raspberry Queen TM. Blooms was very strong and big. But this is not that special feature. The biggest bud count. Is something what I love. This one few year back have 36 buds, and last year have 46. Waiting what this one can show this year.

Other unique daylily for me is Dear Moon. I got very tiny fan, and really think, that this one will bloom only next year or later. But after few weeks I see little fan, which look like scape. So I just think, that this is interesting fan. Later it was new fan from which grow first scape. And few years later other one. So from so small fan I got two scapes with 8 buds. That is very nice. But this is still not that point which I love. Color and shape is what I like. First 3 blooms was not normal. Look at photo.

But later, blooms show real beauty. Color was really amazing. Yellow with green marks. And size of bloom is amazing. About 20 cm each. And next year scape grows bigger and give me 20 blooms.

Something what I call special is Vakara Vesma. Latvian hybridizer work. Real treasure for me. Scape is not big, but very strong. Blooms are big and very nice. But the biggest point is that, this one is fragrant. Early in the morning smell was very strong. That keep until afternoon. Then smell still is, but not so strong as before. I am also like form and color of it. Just perfect daylily for breeding.

And the last one, was my biggest headache. I got this from Šiauliai botanical garden with name De Luxe. No information about it. So I wait for blooms and that time, when I can to use it for breeding. Daylily with good characteristic, but with no information about ploidy. So I try to cross it with tetraploids  - no results. So then with diploids. No results too. So make me really mad and think why it not dip and tet. So only few months back I contacted this daylily hybridizer and ask what ploidy this have. And he say, that is good fertile tetraploid. I don't think so, that this one is fertile. No pollen and pod crosses at all. Well, this year try only with tet's and look if any of this make.

 

So this is some of my special daylilies, which is very important and special for me.
